November Tree

I took this picture wishing there were trees on both the sides of the path, but that wasn't to be. Would have felt very New Englandyy...

Anyways, here's the original picture, the path that leads nowhere:

Path that leads to nowhere...

Looking more at it, I felt like something was missing. I mean, I really like the greens in this picture, but I wasn't too sure. So I asked my friend, and after talking to him, decided on making a few changes. After a few revisions, here is what I came up with. Would love to hear which one of these two pictures you like more...

UPDATE: I asked Mike Colon what he thought about the pictures, and here is what he tweeted back: "the crop on second image is nice and I always love b+w :)"

Thank you Mike!

A very November Apple Picking!

Well, we couldn't co-ordinate with our friends this year to go to the Apple picking during Fall and so come November, when it looked half decent, we decided to have an impromptu Apple picking trip.

Ashna loves going there, and although we always come back with a bag of apples that we can't finish eating, we have a great time going there. This time around, we went with Ashna's cousins, and Ashna loved to pull the trolley with her cousins on it. I tried to take a few pictures with her doing that, without "getting in her way".

Even in November, there were quite a lot of apples, and the red made me get down on my belly to take this shot:

Thanksgiving with full zoom

So I have been trying to take pictures with full (or almost full) zoom and see if I can get a decent enough picture without making it too grainy. Now maybe it's because I love my wife to death, but I thought this picture came out really good, although one of the first persons to disagree would be her! I know the zoom worked when she asked me when I took this picture :) She didn't realize I was taking this picture during this shot, which worked out for me. She is extremely shy in front of a camera...

In either case, here it is with the EXIF data below it:

Exposure: 0.04 sec (1/25)

Back after a LONGG time

I am back after a longgg time (hopefully) and will try to put something here regularly. Which means, I will try to take pictures more regularly!

This one was taken before Christmas. My daughter had gotten ready to go to her school where they were having Santa over, and I thought it would be a great idea to have her pose on the steps. I wish the background was better, but nothing I can do about it in the 5 min before she left.

Venetian Night @ Navy Pier

A few of our friends decided to see the boat parade and fireworks at Navy Pier on Venetian Night. It was a perfect outing for the kids. We decided to go via Metra Rail, so that there is no hassle of driving, parking, traffic, etc. Just before the fireworks started, I could see the *beautiful* Chicago skyline; just as the sun had set. I truly believe that when it comes to skylines, Chicago might easily be the best...

Chicago Skyline

As an FYI, if you are planning to take a picture at night or in the "night mode" preset of your camera; do me a favor and get a tripod! As you can see from the picture above, it doesn't come out as sharp as one would want it. I was lucky the picture isn't blurry, to be honest.

Just by the Pier were the horses courtesy Budweiser Brewery. The horses were majestic looking, although I don't have a good picture to do justice.

Anyways, we are right in front of their cage.

Walk for Life - National Kidney Foundation of Illinois

My wife always thought that in today's hectic day and age, she could never do anything for others. All the time we had was always spent on us. And while family is very important, so is giving something back to the society. So when she found out about Baxter's "Walk for Life", for the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois, she jumped in. My 4 year old daughter who, if I may, is turning out just like her mother (which is why I love her even more), also wanted to "walk": just like momma. So come June 28th, both Mom and our lil' pumpkin, went to Baxter's campus; where a couple of buses were chartered to take everyone to downtown Chicago. Thumbs up for Baxter!

So my wife (who hasn't been in practice of walking 3 miles) and Ashna (with a stroller -- just in case) took part in the walk.

Ashna & Shivani

From what I was told, the walk was really good, since it was at the lakefront. It was a perfect day to be outdoors (so I am told!) and they seemed to enjoy every bit of it.

At the waterfront

I participated as well. I mean, I didn't walk, per se. But hey, I did wake up early to drop them off at Baxter so that they could get the bus on time. Don't forget, I even picked them up when they came back. So, all in all, all of us did something for the NKFI's walk for life. Now who's counting...?

Picnic time at Algonquin Park

Three of our close family friends (including us) went out for a picnic at a park in Algonquin, IL. It was a nice park, weather was excellent and it was a perfect time for some hitting practice. That is exactly what my bro-in-law Ray did.

I tried a DoF with this picture, rather than just taking a regular picture.

He seemed all ready for the game, although I wasn't ready to start pitching for an hour. I was happier with the camera, rather.

Play Ball

Don't get me wrong, it wasn't all work. It was great fun. Proof?

Having a variety.

So I asked Natalie Norton to review my blog, and she was kind enough to take a quick glimpse. Based on her feedback, I am putting a bit of a variety hereon. So while I love Black & Whites, I will now be keeping an open mind and putting in different pictures, rather than only those that were B&Ws. So here it goes...

I went mountain hiking, and loved the look that these trees gave with the backdrop which yelled rain. Wind was beginning to make it's presence felt, and the usually calm trees were beginning to as if shout, "Give us legs, we need to get out of here...".

Boy, that sounded good. To be honest, this was taken in Downtown Chicago, from my friend's apartment. But the other story sounded much better...

Downtown visit.

While visiting our friends downtown Chicago, my daughter wanted to take our pictures. I am pleased to say that I only had to tell her once when she first wanted to use my camera that she needs to leave equal space on the sides when she is taking someone's pictures. As you can see, the pictures have us in the middle and she did a pretty good job taking this picture. Converted it to B&W, going with my tradition...Us

Both Ashna & Aman had fun playing together. Aman told his parents that once we (Ashna's parents) go to sleep, he is going to play with Ashna. I am going to keep a real eye on these guys from hereon!

Incidentally, Aman likes taking pictures too! That and the picture above, you don't have to be a genius to put two and two together! Hmm, where are my NRA forms???

Yumm, Pizza time...

I think Giordano's are the best pizza, period; and while my wife may disagree, she's not writing this blog, is she??

Deep Thought

While other kids were playing and having fun, our deep thinker: Vishav was in his own world!

Deep Thought

Fun times in WI Dells!

We went to WI Dells for a 2 day visit with friends & family. The weather outside was like mid 40s, but the indoor water resort was perfect. The kids had fun and I got a chance to take some pictures. I couldn't take many, I was busy enjoying myself. But I did take a few pictures with the kids, so thought this would be perfect for updating the blog after *such* a long time!

Keeping with the Black&White tradition, I am putting here one B&W picture.

Once she was done posing, she wanted a picture taken with her friend: Hriday. I am keeping this one as a colored one, because I want to see one B&W and one color one side by side to see which one would go better. But either way, both the pictures came out really good, IMHO!

When grainy pictures are okay...

So the other day I asked Ashna to adjust her cap while I was trying to take a picture of her. That didn't turn out that great, and the lighting messed it up. Anyways, so Ashna wanted to take a picture, and of course, she asked me to wear a cap and adjust it the same way I asked her to and this is what she took. The lighting again, is not that good and the picture is grainy. To top it, it has me in it!!! But since Ashna took this picture, it's special nonetheless...

A smile is enough

Haven't had time to take any pictures at all, but I still wanted to put "something". So I looked at the only set of pictures I have taken in a few months: when my daughter went to her friend's B'day party!
